This is a free service offered by The Zimbabwe Funeral Company. All we ask is that you register and become part of our evergrowing family.

With ZimFunerals Family Tree, you will be able to create and update your Family Tree online. This means that the tree will be available to anyone that you give the appropriate user name and password. These family members will be able to update their information, add their own branches, information, and important dates. This means that you can share the building of Your Family Tree with other members of the family. It also means that you can control, as the Administrator of your Family Tree, who can add and alter records, and who can have access on a read only basis.

There are 3 levels of entry, so when you sign on make sure you have 3 passwords at the ready, as well as a name for your family tree and a user ID. The initial Family Tree creation page will be as follows.

 

 

Notes:

  • Choose a User ID - this is the name that identifies your tree.
  • General Use Password - This is the password that you give to all family members that allows them to access the tree and add and edit information;
  • Read-only password - This is a “read – only” password and allows the user to view your tree but they can not add, edit, print or make any alterations to the information in the Family Tree;
  • Administrative Password - This is your password and allows you full access to the Family Tree. You have full administrator function within the Family Tree;
  • Administrators name -  This is where you record your name;
  • Descriptive Tree name - This is the name of the Family Tree; i.e. “The Smiths”;
  • Admin email address - This is your email address and you are notified if someone needs assistance.

 
Once this form has been completed and you have clicked the “Create New Family Tree” button you are ready to go.

So go ahead and email your User Id and General use password to as many relatives as you know about, and watch your tree grow! Since I created a ZimFunerals Tree for my own family, I've discovered relatives that I never knew I had, and found ancestors reaching back hundreds of years. (Remember to keep the Administrative details for yourself.)

You will need to start your tree by creating an individual. This individual can be anyone - it doesn't have to be anyone in particular. Just pick some member of your family at random and enter his or her information. Then follow the family backwards to its roots.

TIP OF THE WEEK

To make your Family Tree fill your whole screen press "F11", and then press "F11" again when you have finished to return the screen to normal.
