What and where is Glen Forest Memorial Park?
The first and currently only privately owned and administered cemetery in Zimbabwe, located in Glen Forest of the Borrowdale Estate about 15 kilometers north of Sam Levy’s village, set in a very scenic area.

Is it possible for a cemetery to be administered other than by a municipality or a rural council?
Yes, Glen Forest Memorial Park was established in full compliance with the Cemeteries Act in terms of which a permit was issued by the local authority and the requisite consent was given by the Minister who administers this Act, the Minister of Local Government, National Housing and Public Works.

Is this the same type of cemetery as say Granville or Warren Hills?
Like other cemeteries Glen Forest Memorial Park is a final resting place for departed loved ones. The similarity ends there.
The design concept brings out the connectivity between the current world and that of our dear departed loved ones. There was care, thought and love in the design and planning of Glen Forest Memorial Park.
Each burial unit is lined, waterproof and has specially manufactured grave lids. Each burial unit has capacity for two burials in the case of married couples.
The imposing entrance façade and gates are designed to give the feeling of arriving at and passing through Pearl Gates into a higher place.
Attention is given to making the burial a long lasting memorial event.
Glen Forest Memorial Park embodies Serenity, Sanctity and security.

Can I move a loved one from another cemetery to Glen Forest Memorial Park?
Yes, in fact several re-internments of loved ones, moved from other cemeteries, have already been done.

Can I pick the location of my individual site?
Yes, particularly in the case of Family Closes and Family Avenues. Glen Forest Memorial Park gives families choice of their private family cemetery within the private cemetery.
A family close is made up of ten burial units on each site which can be hedged and gated for the exclusive use of members of a family.
Each burial unit also has capacity to take up two bodies which is permissible only in the case of married couples. Husband and wife can take up one burial unit while son and his wife can use another.
A family avenue is the same as a family close but has 20 burial units instead of 10.

How will each site be identified?
The individual plots have been surveyed and are recorded separate individual numbers. These are all recorded on maps and each site is written to a certificate.

How will you ensure standards are upheld?
Glen Forest Memorial Park guarantees perpetual maintenance of this peaceful and beautiful resting environment by having a trust fund in place for this purpose.
In addition, the Park will be administered by professional management who have had experience in maintaining parkland and administering cemeteries to the highest standards.

I am thinking of buying for my family into future generations so that the area becomes my family shrine.
This can be done by purchasing either a family close which comprises 10 burial units or a Family Avenue which comprises 20 burial units, or multiples of these.

Who are involved in the project?
The project, in its entirety, has just been purchased by Candrina Investments (Private) Limited.
Candrina are currently working on the infrastructure that was not implemented by the previous owners.
Candrina has also undertaken to complete the entrance gate, create the car park, finish the perimeter walls, landscape the gardens, and complete the ablutions and meeting facilities.
Candrina has earmarked a considerable amount of money for the Capital Infrastructure of the project.

Will the Glen Forest Memorial Park have other facilities?
Yes, as well as a uniquely designed, walled and landscaped environment, there will be:-
A parkland maintained to the highest standards, with on site management and a high level of discreet but effective security.
Multi-denominational acceptance
Crematorium
On site provision of burial and bereavement services including caskets, memorial stones, flowers and refreshments, and

Will there be an area that will serve refreshments to visitors to the Glen Forest Memorial Park?
A special area has been set aside for the building of a purpose built refreshment area.
There will also be an area for hire to enable mourners to conduct “wakes” on site.

What equipment will be available?
All equipment used during interments such as canopies, seating, coffin-lowering machine will be available from the Memorial Park Offices, once the project is complete.
Shortly after each interment each grave-site will be compacted and leveled, thereby allowing the area to be immediately grassed.
This will lend greatly to the overall garden appearance of the parkland.

Can one erect any type of gravestone?
There are high quality standard gravestones that have been designed for the Memorial Park and written consent of the cemetery management would be required for any deviations from these top quality standards.

Can a burial take place without a lining?
This cannot be done as it is a requirement of the Environmental Impact Assessment Study approval that all burial units are lined.
It must be noted that since January 2004, the full purchase price includes the charges for excavation, lining and sealing.

Are there other types of lining beyond the basic lining?
Yes, the Memorial Park will be in a position to offer standards of lining, from basic linings to a polished Granite or marble lining.
It must be noted the current full purchase price includes a basic lining fee only. A higher standard of finishing will attract an extra cost.
